Our Service

Port Macquarie Meals Service Inc (PMMS) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides ‘meals on wheels’ and other food and nutritional services to eligible clients in the Port Macquarie community.

Funding support is provided to PMMS by the NSW Department of Human Services through the state-wide administering body, Home & Community Care (HACC). This funding helps to meet our staffing and administration costs. Clients receiving meals at home pay for the cost of their meals which are prepared by the Garden Village kitchen under the supervision of the highly qualified and experienced chef, John Cooke.

The Service is managed by a community based committee, a service Manager and support staff. The organisational structure is available for download here.

Referral to our Service may be made by a medical practitioner, a hospital or welfare service, a relative, friend or the individual, him or herself. The individual will be assessed by PMMS staff to determine his or her eligibility to receive the service and to identify any specific needs. Clients may receive meals on a short term or ongoing basis.

Our Service is guided by a Strategic Plan that states our vision and mission and the priorities for the coming years. An annual business plan details our expected financial commitments, goals and performance targets for the coming year. Our performance is reviewed regularly and an annual report is delivered at the Annual General Meeting.

Whilst the main aim of PMMS is to deliver meals, we also provide a range of other services to support independent living and to promote well being in the community. Our initiatives include: An Eating with Friends program, Cooking for One (or Two) classes and food shopping assistance. To find out more about these programs please contact the Port Macquarie Meals Service.
